Prof. Dr. Kai Phillip Schmidt

Prof. Dr. Kai Phillip Schmidt has held the Chair of Theoretical Physics V at FAU since 2023. He is very popular with students because of his friendly personality. They praise the excellent atmosphere in his lectures and the feedback culture, which allows many questions to be asked. His teaching is structured in terms of content, so that a common thread is always recognizable, and the meaningfulness of assignments motivates students to participate. Beyond his own teaching, Mr. Schmidt encourages students to pursue further education outside the field, for example, by announcing exciting lectures at the faculty or other events that might be of interest to students. He also advocates equal opportunities in studies and promotes diversity at the FAU. He received the TU Dortmund University Teaching Award in 2014 and the FAU Physics Department’s Good Teaching Award in 2017.

“In addition to the direct transfer of knowledge, it is my firm conviction that it is crucial to increase student motivation. To do this, it is important to create an open and positive atmosphere. Overall, this is achieved through a seamless team effort during the large lectures. I would therefore like to thank my entire working group.”
