Academic freedom wins – Gerd Schroeder-Turk rehabilitated
In October last year, the Department of Physics had supported its former colleague Prof. Gerd Schroeder-Turk with an open letter against the legal action of his employer, Murdoch University in Perth (AUS). He had publicly criticized his university’s procedure for admitting external students and was subsequently sued for damages in the millions. This nightmare has now been resolved in a settlement that fully rehabilitates Gerd Schroeder-Turk. With his attitude, Gerd has rendered outstanding services to academic freedom, not only in Australia. We congratulate him and his university on this positive outcome and wish fruitful discussions in the future.
